LYNX Project - Link Youth Nurture Excellence

This is a joint initiative of the Calgary Bridge Foundation for Youth, the Calgary Board of Education and the Calgary Catholic School Board. United Way of Calgary and Area has provided funding for this initiative.

The LYNX Project has been developed to meet the needs of immigrant children and youth so they can experience success in learning and in their socio-cultural development.

The LYNX Coordinator and the two Community workers support immigrant youth and children by guiding them to become familiar with utilizing community based resources. An increased feeling of well-being and confidence is our goal.

After School LYNX

LYNX provides after-school community programs on a weekly basis to children and youth from grades 1 to 12 focusing on: leadership, life-skills, future school and career planning, community awareness and involvement and other themes as are appropriate. Some activities are provided in collaboration with a variety of community resources including: guest speakers, field trips, recreational activities and arts and crafts. The schools are consulted regarding appropriate themes and activities.

Students can join if their first language is not English and/or their parents were not born in Canada.

Adult LYNX

There is also an adult component which addresses community information and resources. Our goal is that both parents and their young children will have an opportunity to spend time doing some educational and enjoyable activities. Socializing and networking for parents is also our goal.

In-School Settlement Program

Get in touch! Get informed! Get involved!

The Calgary In-School Settlement (ISS) Program helps first-year immigrant families with their settlement needs. Through an assessment process, the ISS Workers link and connect families with community and school services/resources. The workers proactively contact each newcomer family to offer them assistance to promote seamless integration into Canadian Society. New comer families are identified through various agency and school referrals, while at times clients contact the program directly.

The In-School Settlement Program operates under the umbrella of the Calgary Bridge foundation for Youth, in partnership with The Calgary Board of Education (CBE) and The Catholic Separate School District (CSSD).
